BANGALORE: Chaos abounded the Yelahanka airbase during Aero India show, which concluded on Sunday. The venue was not able to accommodate the visitors owing to the poor traffic management of the city traffic police.
The police plan to barricade the Bellary Road and make a separate track for vehicles to ply freely to the Bengaluru International Airport backfired, as all vehicles were clogged on the barricaded path that was meant only for Aero India visitors.
Vehicles heading towards BIAL were stuck in the Aero India track and, consequently, vehicles moved at a snail’s pace.
By the time the visitors got to the main gate they were denied entry and instead were asked to park their vehicles outside the venue.
This process denied many an opportunity to witness the aerobatics display as the forenoon flight show was over by the time they got into the venue.
The police, however, painted a different picture. DCP (West) Traffic, Panduranga Rane, said that nearly 1,000 traffic police were deployed at various places for regulating smooth traffic, while two lakh vehicles moved on either end of the Bangalore- Bellary Road. This year’s parking arrangements made on either sides, unlike last year’s single side helped in regulating the traffic, he said.
