Yeddyurappa launches series of development works in Mahadevapura

‘Work on developing Kempegowda Layout will begin by June’
BANGALORE: The first phase of the eagerly-awaited Metro rail project in Bangalore will be commissioned by September 2010, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said here on Tuesday.
Speaking after launching a series of development works in Mahadevapura Assembly constituency at a cost of Rs. 60 crore, Mr. Yeddyurappa said an estimated Rs. 450 crore had been spent on the project in the last seven months, which accounted for about 50 per cent of the earmarked funds.
Also, in tune with various development works under way in Bangalore, Mr. Yeddyurappa said work on developing the Kempegowda Layout in the city will begin by June.
He said the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) was developing the layout on 4,015 acres of land at a cost of Rs. 2,610 crore.
With a view to providing drinking water to the residents of Bangalore, the Government will soon begin work on two drinking water schemes under the fourth phase of the Cauvery water supply project.
This will receive financial aid from Japan Bank for International Co-operation, besides the Rs. 300 crore assistance from the State Government. He said the Government had earmarked sufficient funds for the development of Bangalore into a “world class” city.
