Seven lakh students expected for campaign valedictory
Bangalore: More than seven lakh students from Bangalore Urban and Rural districts are expected for the valedictory function of the Government’s ambitious anti-terror campaign on Saturday.

The programme, scheduled to be held at Palace Grounds, will be attended by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, BJP MP H.N. Ananth Kumar, Visvesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math and Balagangadharanatha Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Math.

This programme is likely to affect traffic in Bangalore. With memories of the chaos that prevailed after the Janata Dal (Secular) rally on November 18 last still fresh, people may hesitate to leave their homes on Saturday.

Addressing college principals, NCC and NSS officials and physical education teachers, Minister for Higher Education Arvind Limbavali said the Government would make elaborate arrangements, including transportation, to ensure that all students attended the programme.

Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said that the city police had not been informed about Saturday’s programme.

“We have not yet received any confirmation of Mr. Advani’s participation. The organisers first have to file an application, following which necessary arrangements will be worked out,” the Commissioner said.
