BANGALORE: Change is coming to Bangalore as well. That is if ABIDe has its way. The Agenda for Bangalore Infrastructure Development (ABIDe) task force has come out with its draft Plan Bengaluru 2020 to change the way the city works. The task force will have a public consultation wherein citizens can suggest changes in the proposals.

The presentations on ABIDe proposals for governance, transport, security and urban poor to be taken up at the consultation are available online at www.bengaluruvedike.org.

Governance

The task force has proposed a comprehensive new legislation, Bengaluru Region Governance Act 2009, that will encompass city’s existing urban body legislation. It also proposes the creation of Neighbourhood Areas with Neighbourhood Area Committees that will empower citizens to participate in the development of their neighbourhood.

Traffic Policy

The draft aims to promote the use of public transport. It also envisages signal-free traffic on the 10 arterial roads between the city centre and the outer ring road (ORR).

Policy towards

A Comprehensive Policy for Development of the Urban Poor 2009 (CP-DUP) focuses on land ownership and housing rights of the urban poor as well as creation of counter magnet cities.

Security

Creation of six security zones, the setting up of a central crisis management command and control centre and improved community policing are mentioned in the draft.
