Insecurity haunts Jayanagar’s streets
For over 50 years, people had faith in Jayanagar. In its calm, security and comfort. Two gruesome murders in a span of 15 days have shattered that faith.
Interestingly, both were carried out with different modus operandi, but a common intention — murder for gain. While the throats of the two elderly people were slit at Jayanagar 3rd Block, the three women were first hit on their heads with a coconut, and then smothered.
Police investigations reveal that the murder of the Rangans is the handiwork of ‘insiders’, especially the missing servant who had quit her job a month ago. In addition to this, the aged couple’s decision to sell the house has also given rise to suspicion that some people interested in the land could be behind the murder.
Though the police have video footage of three people coming out of the house, they could not make a breakthrough in the case. The images are blurred and show the tops of their heads and not their complete faces, sources said. The modus operandi of the triple murder on Tuesday was very different. Preliminary investigations reveal that the assailants may have gained entry into the house accidentally and attacked the women. The brutality of the murders and the fact that the assailants made away with some jewellery on the bodies of the victims, indicate that they may not be professionals. The fingerprints left behind by the culprits may provide some clues for the police to get an early crack at the case.
