An entire spectrum of colours unfolded as the Lalbagh Flower and Horticultural Show was inaugurated in Bangalore on Saturday. Over 200 varieties of flowers are on display at this years show, which will go on till January 26. Visitors can enjoy the flower show at an entry fee of Rs 30.
Along with regular attractions like roses, marigolds, cockscomb, geranium, this year’s show also features a number of exotic flowers like brachycome, petunias and colosia. A number of first-timers thronged the show on the opening day. Manoj, a visitor for the first time, said “It is beautiful and the sheer variety and the organisation of flowers is a visual treat.”
This year’s central theme at the flower show was peace. A floral edifice built to depict a globe with two pigeons on top was symbolic of the theme. Another attraction on the opening day was ‘Janur’, a type of Indonesian plant decoration by artist Namitha Suresh. The piece of art in the shape of elephants, was created out of tender coconut leaves and banana stem.
Like in previous years, this year’s show also features an exhibition of hybrid vegetables that include exotic vegetables like Broccoli, Zuchini and Chinese cabbage.
