Bengaluru Region Governance Act superseding all municipal acts proposed

Bangalore: The Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure Development (ABIDe) Task Force on Monday released its blueprints and plans for the development of Bangalore City under the title Plan Bengaluru 2020 while launching its website www.bengaluruvedike.org.

To begin with the blueprints for four key sectors — Governance, Road, Traffic Management and Transportation, Urban Poor, and Security — have been uploaded on the website.

In a press release, ABIDe convenor and Member of Parliament Rajeev Chandrasekhar said: “The Task Force has worked hard to understand the actual detailed nature of the challenges facing our city and to formulate the solutions through the blueprints.”

People can go through the blueprints, prepared by the ABIDe team, and give their suggestions after reviewing the proposed plans.

The release, however, points out that many of the recommendations or plans proposed in the blueprints are being implemented.

Initially, the details of the blueprints are available in English on the website and the Kannada version will be ready within a week.

The blueprints for the sectors — Water and Sanitation, Heritage and Environment, Education and Health, City Facilities, Power, and Airports and Railways — will be completed by the end of February.

They will be posted on the website, stated a release from the ABIDe.

The blueprint titled Govern Bengaluru proposes a new law called Bengaluru Region Governance Act which will supersede all existing municipal acts or those governing different civic bodies in the Bangalore metropolitan region.

It also proposes to adopt either Mayor-in-Council having provision for specialist nominated and elected corporators and directly elected Mayoral system.

Traffic
The Blueprint on Road, Traffic Management and Transportation focuses on improving the public transport system, pedestrian ways with specific suggestions on improving 10 major arterial roads, hop on, hop off circular bus service in central business district, development of lake side roads, among others.

Urban poor
A realistic survey of urban poor in Bangalore, ensuring sufficient land for allotment for this sector in all layouts, is among other proposals under this sector.

Security
Professionalisation of the police force, dividing the city into five special security zones, creation of central crisis management command and control centre, state legislation against terrorism, are among the proposals made under the blueprint “Secure Bengaluru”.
