Pedestrian subways are BBMP’s latest priority

BANGALORE: After the successful implementation of the first of its kind precast segmental box technology underpass at Cauvery Theatre Junction, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is now busy using similar technology to construct pedestrian subways on the arterial roads.
Work of the staircase, flooring and other interior works on the subway on Nrupatunga road is pending which would take approximately two weeks and would be carried out without hampering traffic movement or causing inconvenience to the public, sources said. The subway, which is likely to cost about Rs 45 lakh, connects the Public Instruction office to the Government Arts College. The subway work near Basava Bhavan is also getting completed, according to sources, in another three days.
Two subways- one on the Bellary road (near Veterinary College) and the other on the Basaveshwara cirlce towards the Raj Bhavan Road- have been completed and the subway on the Nrupathunga Road is the fourth one to be completed soon.
