Pay-and-park scheme back on nine roads

Pay-and-park scheme back on nine roads

Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Pay and park returned, at least for some days, at nine major roads in the city on Wednesday after the High Court stayed for a fortnight the cancellation of the contract awarded to Iswarya Associates.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has not yet filed its objections on the private firm’s petition questioning the cancellation of contract awarded to it to collect the parking fee. Parking fee collection is on in full swing at St. Mark’s Road, Lavelle Road and the cross roads, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Krishna Temple Road (Indiranagar), Burton Road, Richmond Road Cross from Kids Camp junction, Ali Askar Road, from Jyothi Nivas College to 5th Cross Koramangala, and Millers Road.

The fee has been fixed at Rs. 2 per every hour for two-wheelers and Rs. 10 per every hour for four-wheelers.

BBMP officials said steps had been taken to vacate the stay. Pay and park resurfaced on January 2 following an order issued to Iswarya Associates by the Assistant Revenue Officer allegedly without the approval from higher officials. However, the controversial order was withdrawn by Additional Commissioner (East Zone) the same day but Iswarya Associates moved the court stating that cancellation was done without issuing notice to it.
