Metro shifts the blame on people

Metro shifts the blame on people

Senthalir S. Bangalore
Just 17 days after a crane toppled over on the footpath on CMH Road, a barricade of Namma Metro crashed down on Old Madras Road, damaging a car.
The residents of CMH road have raised serious concerns the huge barricades being left unattended even as the project work is delayed by months.
"Luckily no one was injured when the barricade fell on the car. In the past three months, at least five such incidents have occurred," said Imtiaz Ahmed, president of CMH traders association.
He added that a huge rig fell on Vijaya Bank in CMH road and the crane fell near Weekender. No one was hurt when the crane toppled on December 15 as the road was closed for cable work.
"We are not against the Metro. But they have to manage the work properly. The roads are badly damaged and the traffic is in a mess. How long will the misery continue?" said Dinakar Kosalram, a resident of CMH road.
On the other hand S Hegga Reddy, chief engineer in-charge of Reach 1 of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL), blamed the people. "We fix a rod at 1 foot below the ground to hold the barricade. People have stolen the anchor that held the barricade and that was why it crashed on the ground," said Reddy.
