The state government’s latest initiative to ensure quality in infrastructure projects is collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to set up Centre for Infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning (CiSTUP). It signed an MoU to this effect with the IISc on Friday.
CiSTUP is the first of its kind in India in its approach towards urban issues. It will address infrastructure and traffic problems in Bangalore city and the state, besides engaging in research and development in urban infrastructure, water supply and planning. The center’s executive committee will be headed by IISc Director Prof P Balram and co-chaired by Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao. Apart from the executive committee, it will feature 15 members who are experts in infrastructure, transport and urban planning from different parts of the country. The centre has received a corpus fund of Rs 30 crore from its stake holders - Bangalore Metro Transport Corporation (BMTC), Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).
