Palike plea to vacate stay on parking fee

Palike plea to vacate stay on parking fee

Srikanth Hunasavadi. Bangalore

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, on Tuesday, filed an application in the high court for vacating the stay on the order to withdraw collection of parking fee.
In an application, BBMP Commissioner said "We have not taken any decision to impose parking fee on the general public. To impose a parking fee, the administrative council has to take the decision. But now there is no elected council. On January 21 2005, the council had taken a decision to ban parking fee in the city. Until now, no decision has been taken in this regard".
"On December 15 2008, G Subramani had made a request to Palike seeking permission to collect parking fee in certain areas. On the basis of his request, the assistant revenue officer, without informing the additional commissioner, had taken the decision and given licence to collect parking fee. After that, he came to know that order is illegal. That is way we have taken back the parking fee licence. So the court has to vacate the stay given by the single judge on January 13."
Palike, on December 29 2008, had awarded the contract to J Subramanya for collecting parking fee from 10 roads including Brunton Road, Lavelli Road, Commercial Street, Brigade Rroad, and Richmond Road. On January 2, BBBP's joint commissioner withdrew the contract without giving any reason.
