Overwhelming response for Janaspandana

Overwhelming response for Janaspandana
Milling crowds poured forth countless civic problems that marred their daily lives during the fifth Janaspandana programme organised on Saturday for residents of Byatarayanapura constituency by Deccan Herald and Prajavani.

Overflowing drainage, bad roads, traffic congestion, lack of drinking water and uncleared garbage were the recurring issues which echoed in the Janaspandana programme.

This being the first Janaspandana following the Mumbai terror attacks, security made their presence clearly felt. Cops leading sniffer dogs inspected the premises before the event got underway at Sri Gangadareshwara Kalyana Mantap, near Kodigehalli Gate on Bellary Road.

MLA Krishna Byre Gowda occupied centre stage during the three-and-half hour programme. Before the public could put forward their grievances, the MLA gave an exhaustive hour-long presentation on the problems in the constituency and development works that were underway. “Low-lying areas, non-existent drains and bad roads are the core issues,” he said. There is some form of violation taking place in 80% of the area, he added.

Referring to it, a member of the audience said, “Sir, you have pre-empted us by elaborating on all the problems we wanted to raise.” On steps taken to redress the water shortage issue, he said, “Seventy five new borewells are approved and tenders have been called for the same.” The following is the list of ongoing works he mentioned: Road-side drain at Balaji Nagar, bridge at Gurudarshan Layout, road formation at Tata Nagar, 5th Cross and Badrappa Layout. DH Associate Editor K Subrahmanya also took part. Due to paucity of time, many presented grievance letters to the concerned officials.

The closed median at Kempapura Gate on Bellary Main Road needs to be opened urgently. Vehicles now take a detour at Kodgehalli Gate and this adds an extra 2 kms to the journey. It takes 15 minutes to cross the road.

Poisonous snakes and other pests live in the vacant sites in the layout. The sites have also been converted into garbage dumping yards. The sewage is constantly blocked and no clearance is done.

Look at the tar I have in hand in this plastic bag. It has fallen from the Jakkur Main Road, which was laid when PM Manmohan Singh visited the City early this week. A sum of Rs 4.69 crore have been spent to lay this 2.5-km road and it all seems to be a waste now.

Despite paying taxes for the last 24 years, my constituency has seen no improvement. Our association has asphalted nine roads by collecting funds on our own long ago. They have all worn out now. Why is the government not taking steps to better the bad roads?
