Community watch initiative launched by Janaagraha

Community watch initiative launched by Janaagraha
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The Civil Defence (Karnataka) and Janaagraha came together to launch a unique initiative, Area Suraksha Mitra (ASM) here on Saturday as a neighbourhood watch scheme.

To act as a citizen security representative, involving local communities, the ASR with volunteers recruited from across all age groups will comprise three to four streets across all neighbourhoods and approximately 2,000 residents. The ASM will offer a systemic way for people to play a vital role in the safety of their neighbourhoods.
Speaking at the launch of the ASM, Jija Madhavan Hari Singh, Commandant General of the Home Guards said in the current context, post Mumbai attacks, it is important for communities to be vigilant.

Centered in the polling booth jurisdiction, where the volunteer chosen to represent the neighbourhood is familiar with the area, the ASM hopes to ensure a requirement of police-community partnerships to create a vigilant civil society.

Principle Secretary (Home and Transport), Upendra Tripathy from the Government of Karnataka and Ramesh Ramanathan from Janaagraha were present. For details log-on to : asm@janaagraha.org
