Distribution points
Opium, which flows into the city from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, are sold in the market areas of Hebbal, Cottonpet, Madivala, Malleswaram, Chickpet and KR Market. It is distributed among owners of paan outlets, cigarette shops and dhabas, who mostly hail from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
"Marijuana, on the other hand, can be obtained from small-time peddlers at Ulsoor, Krishnarajapuram, Banaswadi Ring Road, Bytarayanapura and Shivajin-agar," a police official said on the condition of anonymity.
Railway route
Carriers and peddlers use the railways to transport drugs within the country. However, SHS Revanna said that there are minimal chances of them being identified there. "We find it very difficult to detect such cases. However, we have identified gangs that use trains to operate through Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu," he said.
Drugs like Ketamine are carried by foreign students, who are paid Rs5,000-Rs30,000, depending on the consignment. The drugs are concealed in books, shoes, socks, wristwatches and suitcases.
