Waiting for a BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) bus in one of the busiest bus stops in the City can be a cool and pleasant experience.

Mobile service provider Bharti Airtel, Big Street, a subsidiary of Reliance Big Entertainment Limited and the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday joined hands to make waiting for your bus an enjoyable affair, with the inauguration of an air-conditioned bus shelter, said to be the first of its kind in the country.

The Airtel air-conditioned bus shelter is situated on the pavement diagonally opposite to Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium, and is adjacent to the pavement near Cubbon Park entrance (Kasturba road). With a dimension of approximately 25x8 feet, the shelter can accommodate 20 people at a time, and will be manned by a uniformed guard.

The bus shelter, which was inaugurated by Govindaraju, Joint Commissioner (Advertising and Marketing), BBMP, was built by Big Street at their cost of Rs eight lakh. The company has also bagged tender for construction of 172 regular bus shelters across the City.

Venkatesh V, CEO, Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel Ltd, Karnataka, and Rabe Iyer, Head, Bif Street, were present on the occasion.
