Minister inspects Sankey tank

Minister for IT-BT and Bangalore in-charge Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu has directed the BWSSB officials to clean the Sankey Lake within 24 hours and keep the original map of the tank ready.


The minister’s instruction came after his visit to the Sankey Tank where due to the pollution around 200 fish had died due to mixed of sewage water with the tank water. The residents of the area rose an alarm against the pollution and the death of fish in the tank, following which the minister paid a visit on Sunday.

After the inspection, Naidu held the encroachment on major storm-water drains responsible for the incident and promised to take necessary action against the erring people. He stated that the apartments and the factories are dumping the waste into the storm-water drain, due to which the tragic incident occurred.

The Minister instructed the BDA, BBMP and the urban Deputy Commissioner to clean the tanks and the lakes and ordered them to keep the original map ready. He said there are seven sewage pipelines around sankey tank lake and ordered the BWSSB officials check the leakage of these points and to clean the sankey lake water within 24 hours. Also he announced the repair of the walking path by investing Rs 37 lakh. He expressed his unhappiness over the poor construction of the public toilet by the Lake Development Authority and assigned the BBMP to construct a new one.
