It’s raining again in Bengaluru, and much before the onset of the North-East Monsoon.

A sudden downpour on Monday hampered traffic at many places during peak hours in the evening, uprooted trees and forced power outages in many localities.

While south Bengaluru was worst affected with many areas plunging into darkness, a tree fell on a four-wheeler in RT Nagar, causing a scare.

Meteorologists have forecast more rainfall in the next 24 hours and the minimum temperature is expected to decrease further. On Monday, the minimum temperature in Bengaluru hovered around 20 degrees C.

The weather station at Indian Meteorological Department on Palace Road recorded 5.8 mm rainfall while HAL airport station recorded 0.8 mm rainfall till 8.30 pm on Monday.

“The North-East Monsoon usually occurs between October 1 and December 31. This year, a good amount of rainfall is expected over Bengaluru and other parts of the state,” IMD director Mutha Chami said.

“During North-East Monsoon, winds blow in from the Bay of Bengal. Southerly winds are replaced by easterly winds.

The North-East Monsoon is confined to a smaller geographical area and the rain will continue to occur till the end of December,” Dr Mutha Chami added.
