Metro alignment to be extended

The alignment of Namma Metro will be extended from Electronic city to Kadugodi (Whitefield) so as to provide connectivity to these parts of the City.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, speaking after laying foundation stone for construction of two new flyovers at the Iblur and Agara junction here, said that the alignment of metro corridor will be extended to cover these parts of the city as well. “A decision has already been taken to address connectivity and infrastructure problems in southern parts of the city”, he said.

He disclosed that government has already released a sum of Rs 300 crore for the metro project out of Rs 700 crore allocated towards the Mass Transit Project. “We will complete phase one of the Metro Rail by 2010.”, he claimed.

He said, Race Course would be shifted to the outskirts of the City within a year. “ We are keen to shift Race Course about 20 kms away from the City. The government will accord priority to development of roads and infrastructure so as to make Bangalore comparable to international standards.

A sum of Rs 700 cr has already been released to upgrade 1,187 roads. Work on 23 roads has already begun, and 231 lakes in the City will also see improvement. We will also install a bronze statue of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in a prime locality of the City,” he detailed.
