Drive against firms advertising through ‘No Parking’ boards

Bangalore: Property owners, beware if you have put up “No Parking” signboards containing advertisements of private firms on your gates. You may be penalised if no permission was sought from the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to put up such boards containing advertisements.

The BBMP, which has taken up a drive to remove illegal hoardings, has found out that “No Parking” signboards sponsored by private enterprises are affixed to the gates of a large number of residential property in the city.

BBMP officials view this as an “insidious method” adopted by private firms to avoid payment of advertisement fee and point out that putting up of such signboards containing advertisements is against the provision of the advertisement bye-law.

The officials said that as per their records, none of the private firms or property owners have taken permission from the BBMP to put up such boards that usually tout goods and services. They also said that instances of putting up signboards — made of metals and polyvinyl chloride material — have gone up in the city. In some areas such boards can be seen on the gates of every property. “In some cases such boards are installed after seeking the permission of the property owners while in others, representatives of firms simply fix the boards on gates on their own accord,” an official said.

BBMP Additional Commissioner (East) Puttaswamy said the BBMP has issued notice asking all property owners to remove such signboards.
