People who take buses from near Lido Mall on Ulsoor Main Road, have a bone to pick with the ongoing Metro Rail construction.
For, it is this project that has reduced the bus shelter here to heaps of mud and wood.
The shelter was demolished to facilitate the Metro construction, but buses plying through this road continue to stop at the same spot.
The place was dug up to construct the Metro’s pier, leaving behind slush that fills the entire area even spilling on to the road.
The road has also been rendered narrow, making it difficult for the buses to stop here.
“We run after the buses, but they just zoom past. Sometimes we cannot even see whether the approaching bus is the one we are waiting for. Only after it has moved away, we realise it was the bus we wanted to catch,” complained Jaggesh, a daily commuter, who takes the bus from Lido stop to Rajajinagar.
“Last week I slipped and fell down at the bus stop while trying to board the bus,” said Maheshwari, an employee at a private firm, near the Lido Mall.
Lighting is also a major problem. With the shelter not being there, the bus halt goes unnoticed and some buses skip the stop. “By the time I reach the bus stop after my work it becomes dark. Since there is no sufficient lighting we can’t even see the bus number properly,” complained Sanjana, who was headed towards Malleshwaram from the Lido stop.
The Bangalore Metro Railway Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has nothing to do in this regard, said its Assistant Public Relations Officer, Nagendra. “As the bus shelter fell inside the area marked for the Metro construction, we had no option but to bring it down,” he said.
