Underground work set to take off

Underground work set to take off

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: After zeroing in on the designs for four elevated stations in the first phase of Namma Metro, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRC) is all set to clear the decks for work in the underground sections. Seven firms bidding to develop underground infrastructure — including seven stations and tunnels — have been selected for further screening.
The seven bidders (see box) will participate in the final tender process that is likely to start from the third week of September. Ten firms were initially selected after a pre-qualification tender was floated in February. The bids were sent to the Japanese Bank for International Co-operation for feedback.
The BMRC is also evaluating contractors for construction of viaducts in Reach 2 (Leprosy Hospital-Mysore Road terminal) and Reach 3 (Yeshwantpur-Swastik). While eight firms participated in the Reach 2 bidding, nine were in the fray for Reach 3. All were selected for further screening.
The commissioner of railway safety (southern circle) will be responsible for keeping an eye on safety-related work.
