Netas had meetings to attend, people to catch up with, but no car to ferry them

Bangalore: It was an unusual sight for the common man on Monday: a host of high-level politicians taking the aam-aadmi’s wagon, the red Vayu Vajra Volvo bus. A group of them, including CPI(M) MP Sitaram Yechury, boarded one of the air-conditioned Volvo buses from a hotel.
They had meetings to attend and people to catch up with at Bengaluru International Airport. Since no vehicle was there to ferry them, the politicians decided to try out the city’s much-talked-about transport success story themselves — the BMTC’s Volvo service.
All were members of the central standing committee on transport, tourism and culture headed by Yechury. Along the way, they watched Bangalore’s famous landmarks such as the Vidhana Soudha and had a taste of the city’s traffic mess. While some were on their laptops, BMTC managing director Syed Zameer Pasha used the opportunity in a smart way. He gave them a short presentation on the country’s best transport system. Sources say the Yechury-led committee was impressed with the comfort they got and the way how BMTC was being run.
