There is a need to popularise the use of bicycles. It will definitely help to ease the monstrous traffic jams in the city. Youth has a great role in popularising the use of bicycles as they are environment friendly and also helps in maintaining good physique for the users. Rescheduling work hours will also help in avoiding traffic jams. There is a need to implement radical changes in the parking systems as parking methods in the city are not up to international standards.

Ashwini Nachappa, renowned athlete
Today in any part of the city and at any time of the day, we can see traffic jam. It is inevitable and should be dealt with firmly. Water-logging is also a common phenomenon in every part of the city. Drains are getting choked and hygiene has gone down seriously. Everybody from citizens to authorities are responsible and should act concertedly to help the city come out of this problem.

We need to make cycle tracks like in London. This will also make the young people cultivate the healthy habit of cycling. We also need to make roads more pedestrian-friendly and create half-a-minute and one-minute road crossing for the elderly. Jams are the biggest problem in Bangalore and needs extensive planning to de-congest roads.

Anil Kumar Patil, Engineer at HAL
One problem I find is that people use either high beam or low beam lights while travelling. On top of that, the traffic policemen too do not penalise such people; they let them go without fining them. It becomes too difficult to ride in such conditions.

Sarika Dwivedi, Engineer at HAL
We need a serious makeover in the infrastructure as the roads are too narrow to take such heavy traffic. The roads, I feel, is the reason for mismanagement of traffic and they need to be widened so that the traffic policemen can manage the traffic jams better.

Vaishak Kumar, Chief Resource Officer, HTMT Global Solutions
The main problem for the traffic problems in Bangalore is that people here do not follow traffic rules, especially the autowallahs. They enter from any side of the road and create more traffic jams. If every person who is riding the vehicle, follows the rules, there would not be any problem. The traffic police too is not in place. After 8:30 pm, you can see all the traffic policemen just collecting money from people and not manning the signal.

Traffic has always been a menace. I have been in Jayanagar for the past 20 years and it was so peaceful before and now there is no space even to walk. I have a car, but I still prefer to walk as it is easier and less stressful to walk. Traffic also causes a lot of sound pollution.

The traffic jams and the problems are due to the conditions of the roads, they are too narrow and that causes congestion and increases traffic jams. Also, there are too many unwanted signal lights at different junctions, which also hampers the smooth functioning of traffic. Vehicles cannot move and have to wait for a long time because of these unwanted traffic signals.

Ramya Bellave, Student
The roads are not built in a proper manner, which creates a traffic jam and also signals are not provided at the places where it has to be provided, people come in from all different directions and create a traffic jam and there is no traffic discipline at all.
