Visitors at the Lal bagh botanical garden are being welcomed by the overpowering smell of garbage.
For the past one week, tourists, traders, residents, commuters and movie goers on Lalbagh Road near Urvashi Theatre have to hold their breath to avoid the nauseating smell of garbage. Thanks to BBMP’s garbage van which passes through this road every morning leaving a trail of garbage on the road.
The corporation truck passes by during peak hours after collecting waste from city market.
The truck spills half the on the road. The waste gets mixed with stagnant water when it rains and leaving behind a horrible stench. “We have to bear with this everyday. We have requested the BBMP to clear garbage at night but they have not bothered to do any thing. We thought of protesting but will be a waste of time,” said Jagadish, a trader.
Shopkeepers along the road claim that despite having Lalbagh next door they have to breathe this filthy air.
“The smell is making life difficult. We are unable to carry on with our business and I have a breathing problem inhaling this air. It is an unhealthy atmosphere to work,” says Thaygraj Naidu, owner of Helmet Paradise.
Meanwhile, movie buffs at Urvashi Theatre have reportedly been complaining to the theatre authorities that the smell is seeping through the AC duct too spreading the bad odour inside the theatre hall.
