The Bengaluru Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) has submitted a report on the proposed 367 km Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) to the government for its approval.

The BMRDA and PWD have drawn up a compensation package for those whose land will be acquired.

Speaking to the Deccan Chronicle BMRDA commissioner Abhijit Das Gupta said various options had been thrown up for the farmers to choose from.

They could become partners with the government by accepting an 8,000 sq ft developed area per acre or opt for land elsewhere in exchange as compensation. Another option could be compensation in the form of money as fixed by the government.

Around 4,000 acres of land has been proposed for acquisition under section 7 (1) of the Karnataka Highway Act, 1964 .

Lengthy discussions had been held with Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on the project which was likely to be approved by the cabinet, he added.

A Techno-Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) had been prepared on the cost of the project, its implications and implementation.

“After the government gives its nod, it will be decided whether to implement the project on design build operate transfer (DBOT) or build own operate transfer (BOOT) basis. The other option is annuity basis. The project will be undertaken in four packages — North, East, West and South. TEFR has approved the east and north packages. Tenders will be invited shortly to commission work,” the BMRDA commissioner added.

The project would be sent to the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MOEF) department for approval.

Around 1,853 objections has been received from the public which would be reviewed by a committee before issuing the final notification, the commissioner added.
