BANGALORE: The owner of an 80-year-old heritage bungalow in V.V. Puram on Saturday petitioned the Karnataka High Court against the proposed acquisition of the building by the authorities for the Namma Metro project.

In her petition, Malini Srirama said she is the owner of a bungalow located near the Vani Vilas Circle in V.V. Puram. She said on January 17, 2006, the authorities issued notification seeking to acquire the bungalow and the land around it for the metro project. She said though she filed objections before the authorities, they were not considered.

She said the bungalow was built in 1928 and that it belonged to her grandfather M. Singrachar. The bungalow was designed by eminent architect Komer Srinivas Iyengar.

She said the doors and windows of the building are made from wood imported from Burma. The building, she said, has carved Roman motif pillars and the load bearing pillars (within the building) were imported from England.

Justice S. Abdul Nazir ordered stay of dispossession and adjourned further hearing of the case.
