BMRC Board approves designs of eight stations in three reaches
BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, on Thursday directed the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) to expedite the execution of the metro rail project while the BMRC Board approved the designs and estimates of eight stations on three reaches at a cost of Rs. 286 crore.
The Chief Minister, who reviewed the progress of the metro rail all along the nine-km stretch between Byappanahalli and Mahatma Gandhi Road, was assured by the BMRC officials that the first phase of the work would be completed by 2010.
Providing an update on the project, the officials told Mr. Yeddyurappa that the remaining work on the project would be taken up in five phases that would be completed by September 2012, three months ahead of schedule. The officials told him that the tender process for all the five phases would be completed in a month and there was no problem in acquiring land for the project.
They informed the Chief Minister that there was a proposal to extend the metro route from Byappanahalli to the Bengaluru International Airport. The Chief Minister instructed the officials to make a feasibility study on the extension route by April.
Designs approved
Meanwhile, the designs and estimates of eight metro stations on three reaches that would cost around Rs. 286 crore was approved by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) Board on Thursday.
A release said the designs and estimates of three stations on Reach 2- City Railway Station to Mysore Road, three stations on Reach 3-Yeshwanthpur to Swastik and two stations on Reach 4-City Market to R.V. Road were approved.
They include Toll Gate (Rs. 33.55 crore), Hosahalli (Rs. 33.24 crore) and Vijayanagar (Rs. 34.46 crore) in Reach 2, Yeshwanthpur (Rs. 37.90 crore), Soap Factory (Rs. 42.52 crore) and Mahalakshmi Layout (Rs. 36.79 crore) in Reach 3 and Jayanagar (Rs. 33.15 crore) and R.V. Road Terminal (Rs. 34.36 crore) in Reach 3, the release said.
