Pothole filling, garbage clearance on a war-footing: Chief Minister

Filling up of potholes, clearing of garbage and attending to the manhole problem will be taken up on a war footing in the City, said Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday.

After attending the first full-fledged marathon meeting of the Task Force --- ‘ABIDE’ -- Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure Development committee, Yeddyurappa emphasised the need to rope in the who’s who of Bangalore city and the government machinery to convert the city into a gateway for the state’s economic development.

Every week, the sub-committee will be meeting and will chalk out short-term and long-term programmes.
The suggestion will be put forth before the core committee which in turn will meet once in a month. : “I am confident of putting things in place - actions speaks louder than words,” he added.

Traffic, transportation, water supply, sanitation, transportation, traffic management, infrastructure of roads, drainage, footpath, power and urban poor were also discussed during the two hour long meeting at 'Krishna', Chief Minister's residence-cum office.

Traffic menace will be attended on priority. “In the next fortnight, we will be coming out with a concrete plan and we are eager to find solution,” he said, refusing to comment on the plans.

BJP National General Secretary and Bangalore South Lok Sabha MP, H N Anantkumar as Vice-President and Rajya Sabha member Rajiv Chandrasekhar as Convener, R Ashok, former Chief Secretary Dr A Ravindra, Chairman of the Narayayna Hrudayala Dr Devi Shetty, Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and commissioners of civic bodies like Bangalore Development Authority, Bangalore Mahanagar Palike and others attended the meeting.

Kiran Mazumdar who left early told mediapersons saying: “there is perceptible future and Chief Minister is very positive about the whole thing. Suggestions are welcome. We are sharing our ideas and objectives.”

Meanwhile, Ramesh Ramanathan too expressed the same saying: “The Chief Minister is very energetic and eager to bring in a change.”

When asked why the opposition leaders were not invited for the 100 days celebrations of BJP government, Yeddyurappa smiled and continued saying: " I never knew they (opposition parties) are interested in our function. Now that they have shown interest, we will make it a point to invite them in future and extend our earnest invitation.”
