A senior government official told Deccan Chronicle that the controversy ridden Ejipura development project should have been subjected to another round of scrutiny before being awarded to Maverick Holdings on Thursday after a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

“While iDeck was right in suggesting Akruthi Nirman for the project, the BBMP council overrode it and awarded it to Maverick stating it had slotted more space for BBMP. Also, there were allegations that Maverick Holdings fudged the tender documents to grab the project,” said the officer.

The officer revealed the inside story behind withdrawal of court order.

“Till recently, the matter was in court forcing the residents to live in tin sheds. However, during Governor’s rule, there was pressure from the Governor’s office to award the project to Akruthi who enjoyed a good equation with the Congress. After learning that there could be no progress as the matter was in court, the case was withdrawn,” the officer said.

“But the BBMP didn’t heed to the pressure. Instead, it bought time to put the project through another scrutiny. Meanwhile, the BJP staked claim to power and now it has awarded the project to its partyman,” said the officer.
