Potholes on the roads in Ullala Upnagara were filled with small stones to celebrate the 100 days of the BJP government.

People who have lived in this part of the city, near Kengeri Satellite town, say they have not seen any development of the locality which falls under the Yeshwanthpur constituency.

Says Srinivas R., “We have lived in this area for the past ten years and nothing has been done to repair the roads. There is a problem with streetlights too which makes it dangerous to venture out at night even for emergencies.’’ Says Ramesh Kumar, who lives here too, “The poor roads and lack of street lights have become a major constraint when travelling to office and back.” Kavitha, a PU student, says the poor condition of the roads has many families worrying if their members don’t reach home in time. People here point out that potholes can be deathtraps and worrying about accidents has become a habit of theirs.

When contacted, the BBMP chief engineer, Rangaraju, in-charge of the zone, contended, “The area has been handed over to us only a year ago, but the roads are still under the jurisdiction of the BDA.’’ And what does the BDA have to say about this? “Our jurisdiction ends with Ullala Bridge. The road after this point falls under the BBMP,” was its pat reply.

BDA commissioners Siddaiah said although the road fell in BBMP jurisdiction, the BDA would carry out the repairs if it wished so.

“The poor quality of the roads in Ullala Upanagara was never brought to my notice. However, I will ask officials to visit the place and take up the repair work,’’ he added.

Minister for rural development and panchayat Raj and the constituency MLA Shobha Karanlanje said Rs 173.83 crore had been allotted for the development of the area and all amenities would be provided soon.
