Bangalore was put on a high alert minutes after serial blasts rocked New Delhi on Saturday evening. Security was beefed up at all sensitive, highly sensitive and public places...


The police topbrass was particularly concerned about the security in the City, since several VVIPs had converged for the ongoing BJP Executive Committee meeting. Besides, the July 25 serial blasts that had shaken Bangaloreans, was still fresh in the memory.

Commissioner of Police Shankar Bidari and DGP Sri Kumar told Deccan Herald: “We have alerted the concerned police officials. Steps have been taken to deploy additional forces wherever necessary. All officials have been instructed to be on their toes. We have also taken other steps which we can’t spell out.”

Sources in the police department said that extra policemen had been deployed at the Bangaluru International Airport and railway stations. Passengers were checked thoroughly before they were let in, added the sources.

All deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners of police were sensitised about the steps to be taken to thwart any untoward incident.

The police intensified patrolling at bus stands in the Majestic area, K R Market and in and around IT and BT companies. All mall owners were directed to take additional security measures and screen customers thoroughly before letting them in. Security was stepped up at all religious places, said the police.

Patrolling was intensified at all check posts and entry points to the state. The police higher ups at all district head quarters were directed to sensitise their subordinates about the security measures.

The police also requested the general public to inform the police immediately if they come across any suspicious object abandoned in any public place or suspicious movement of persons.
