BANGALORE: Pandemonium prevailed at a party organised by a group of people when a Kannada organisation stormed it and objected to their holding it near Tavarekere early on Sunday.

A group of members associated with the Praveen Shetty faction of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike overran the party being conducted on the banks of the Arkavati near Machebele.

The intruders roughed up the guests and vandalised the venue, pulling down the shamiana and trashing musical instruments and other equipment.

The Tavarekere police, who were alerted, came to the spot and recovered 200 grams of ganja cigarettes. They have taken up a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. A case has been registered against vedike members for manhandling the guests.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Devaraj said the party was advertised on a website for Rs. 700 per head. Tickets were reportedly sold at some of the pubs in the city.

The organisers had made elaborate arrangements such as modern sound systems and power generators. Around 70 people had come from the city. In the ensuing melee, Mr. Devaraj said, many guests escaped, including the person who had organised the party.
