BANGALORE: Construction work of the Bangalore Metro Rail project on CMH road will commence from Monday.

The centre of the road will be barricaded for a width of 9.5 metres, from B M Shree Circle towards Adarsha Junction in stages. After barricading, the road width available is approximately 4 metres up to Double Road and 2 metres from Double Road to Adarsha Junction.

Only light vehicles like small cars and two wheelers can ply on CMH Road, while parking is totally banned. All heavy vehicles, light commercial vehicles and other vehicles going towards B M Shree Circle will ply on Swami Vivekananda (Old Madras) Road, turn right on 80 ft road, right near CMH Hospital and left near BM Shree Circle to join 100 ft road and proceed towards Indiranagar and Domlur.

All heavy vehicles, light commercial vehicles and others to reach Adarsha Junction will take a right at B M Shree Circle from 100 ft road, left on 80 ft road and join Swami Vivekananda (Old Madras) Road to reach Adarsha Junction.

The implementing agency of the project, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), has requested vehicle users to take alternative roads and avoid CMH Road.

BMRCL Managing Director N Sivasailam, told to this website's newspaper: "CMH Road will be barricaded at least eight months. BMRCL would take up the work as a piecemeal project and barricade only the minimum area required at any given time. Minimum barricading at the centre of the road will be there till the completion of work."

Construction work for metro on CMH Road was expected to commence last Monday, but could not be started since the shifting of utility and placing of streetlights was not completed on schedule.

BMRCL is taking up the construction even though the metro rail alignment on CMH Road is under litigation.

The High Court has not ordered a stay on construction.
