BDA will invite tenders for first phase of the project in October

The BDA-proposed Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) will now ‘move from the paper to the field’. The BDA officials told Bangalore Mirror the field work will begin in February 2009.
“We will invite global tenders for first phase of the project in the first week of October 2008,” said a senior engineer. The process of tender preparation is on.
The first phase of the project comprises road construction spanning a length of 65 km, starting from Tumkur Road to Hosur Road crossing Bellary Road, Old Madras Road, Varthur Road and Sarjapur Road.
The BDA officials said they are also preparing an environmental impact study for the project which will be completed in a few weeks. “The project will be taken up under a public-private initiative. The company winning the bid will have to complete the project within 30 months,” said an official.
After completion of the first phase, the remaining stretch - 51 km - covering Hosur Road and Tumkur Road crossing Kanakapura Road, Mysore Road and Magadi Road.
User fee
The company which will take up the project will be allowed to collect a user fee, which will be fixed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). “The firm can collect such a fee for 22 years after the project is open to the public,” said another official.
The BDA has almost completed acquiring 1,800 acres of land for the entire project.
