'Bengaluru not Bengalooru'


The High Court has ordered a copy of the petition seeking directions to spell as ‘Bengaluru’ instead of ‘Bengalooru’ be served to the Government.

K N Srinivas and others, in their petition, said that it should be spelt as Bengaluru instead of the present spellings. The state Government on November 1, 2007 on the occasion of Suvarana Karnataka celebrations proposed the change in the names of the Mysore, Bangalore, Mangalore and other Cities.

The petition said that the ‘Bengalooru’ not being a Kannada word should be replaced by ‘Bengaluru’ by BIAL, media and Government Departments.’
