Bangalore: A division Bench has directed the state government to reply by Tuesday on a petition filed against the Bangalore Metro Rail project. Pramila Nesargi, counsel for CMH Road shopowners’ and residents’ association, claimed the project has no legal backing and is without any precautionary measures.
“Since February 12, they have been digging day and night. This shows they have not conducted soil tests. Because of infighting among the civic departments and the railways, we have suffered. The project is moving too slow too,” she said. The PIL will be heard again on Wednesday.
‘Uru’ versus ‘ooru’
A PIL has been filed in the HC challenging the use of ‘uru’ to denote Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore — instead of ‘ooru’. The petitioners claimed ‘uru’ is incorrect and meaningless and that it does not reflect the Kannada word ‘ooru’.
BBMP told to demolish structures

The HC has directed the home department to consider paying compensation to Chandrashekar, who was hit with a lathi by a policeman on February 20, 2002. A drunk Nagaraj, who was posted on Commercial Street, had hit Chandrashekar after the latter saluted him.
