Nice gets going on expressway project

The Nandi Infra structure Corridor Enterprise which is implementing the controversial Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project has officially proposed a suo moto proposal to take up nine expressways of 2,500 km length connecting Tier II cities of northern and central Karnataka to Bengaluru besides developing four townships to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on August 8.
This followed a story that was broken by Deccan Chronicle on August 6 under the title “`Nice roads to criss cross Karnataka.” While government sources had confirmed to this newspaper that the company was proposing to take up the multi billion dollar project, Nice issued an official media release on Monday. The state government had released an advertisement on August 15 that it would take up the Suvarna Karnataka Corridor. With the company now issuing a media release on the subject, sources said that there is a strong possibility of Nice clinching the deal.
This time though Nice has formed a new company named Nandi Intellectual Properties Private Limited to form a consortium with three other companies under the banner Karnataka First Consortium(KFC) to exe cute this project.
The KFC in its proposal has claimed that a total 1.25 crore acres of land will be developed which will benefit approximately 35 lakh farmers. The company has sought six months time to work out a detailed project report.
The company has proposed nine expressways: Bidar-Chitradurga via Gulbarga (445 km); RaichurBelgaum via Bagalkote (315km); Bellary-Karwar (306km); Mangalore-Kolar (335 km); ChitradurgaUdupi (215 km); Chitradurga-Madikere (218 km); Mysore-Chamrajnagar (55 km); Bijapur-Haveri via Bagalkote and Gadag (231 km); Honnavar to Kunigal via Shikaripur (376 km).
