HIGHER GROUND: The construction of the three elevated roads is estimated to cost Rs 55 crore File pic
THE BMTC and KSRTC will build three elevated roads and a multi-level car park to ease traffic congestion in the Majestic area.
The construction of the three elevated roads is estimated at Rs 55 crore and will add to the 14 flyovers and 36 underpasses in the city.
This will primarily cater to buses that enter and exit the proposed Inter model transit centre. The elevated roads will come up around the existing Kempegowda bus terminal.
"The project will add to the existing infrastructure," said M N Srihari, advisor, BMTC.
Proposed plan
The first elevated road has been proposed to run from Cauvery Bhavan to K G Circle. The second, from Sheshadri Road to K R Circle and the third from K G circle to R R junction.
These elevated roads will decongest traffic from K G Road, Mysore Bank Circle, Sheshadri Road and Nrupathunga Road, which suffer from routine jams.
The first stretch from Cauvery Bhavan to K G Circle will be 0.7 km long. The second, from Sheshadri Road to K R Circle will be 1.2 km and the third from K G Circle to RR junction will be 0.9 km.
Joint initiative
"As these roads have been planned to mainly facilitate BMTC and KSRTC buses, the two civic departments will invest in the project," said Srihari. "A final decision will be taken by transport ministry officials," he added.
There is also a proposal for a multi level-parking complex in Gandhinagar that will accomodate more than 5,000 vehicles. The car park will come up near the proposed Rs 700 crore Inter model transit centre.
"We intend to integrate transport services with good infrastructure. As part of this initiative, infrastructure around Majestic will be improved," said R Ashok, transport minister.
