BANGALORE: The High Court on Tuesday directed the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to submit a report regarding unauthorised slaughter houses functioning in the City.
Hearing the petition filed by B Krishna Bhat, challenging the BBMP act of not shifting the existing four slaughter houses in the City to the outskirts, the Court said the inaction of the BBMP had been a cause for the increase in the number of unauthorised slaughter houses.
BBMP advocate K N Puttegowda argued that though the Court had earlier directed to shift the slaughter houses to Eggalur in Anekal taluk, the residents had opposed the move. Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice V Gopala Gowda have advised the BBMP to constitute a peace committee involving local leaders and the local MLA to solve the problem.
The petitioner contended that in an earlier direction, the Court had directed the authority to shift the slaughter houses to Eggalur. The existing ones in the City were functioning under unhygienic conditions with no proper infrastructure, the petitioner added.
