B'lore IT fete gets a makeover
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The 11th edition of BangaloreIT.in, the flagship event of the Silicon Valley of India, was launched in a new avatar here on Tuesday: BangaloreIT.biz.

The venue of the three-day event has been shifted back to Palace Grounds and it is scheduled to kickstart on November 6. The Department of IT, BT and Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka and STPI Bangalore said the event - with Express, Exchange and Empower as its theme - will focus on creating a B2B platform for the industry.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa speaking at the launch said that his government “will extend full support to the IT industry. We have shifted the venue back to Palace Grounds after taking into consideration the feedback and inputs we received from the industry and public. I hope the participation in the event will increase this year unlike previous year”.

The BangaloreIT.in 2007 was held at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, Tumkur Road.

Delivering the keynote address, Infosys Technologies Chairman and Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy hoped that the event “will provide the business environment for collaboration and partnerships. If we want to create more jobs in Karnataka the only way to achieve this is by attracting more companies to Bangalore and help existing companies enhance job opportunities”.

He called upon the government to create a single window with full authority for IT, BT and Nano Technology.
“The IT and BPO exports are estimated to touch $40.3 billion. Bangalore has the potential to take a large stake in the exploding software products market which is estimated to touch $537 billion by 2015 from the current $294 billion,” said Karnataka IT & BT Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu.

Naidu said the government will consider Murthy’s proposal of creating a single window for IT, BT and Nano Technology. He also said the government is looking at improving the infrastructure facilities like air connectivity of Mysore, Shimoga and Gulbarga to attract IT. An IT park will be inaugurated in Shimoga soon, he added.

The event will host conferences, workshops, roundtables, a CEOs’ conclave, a Power Golf tourney and an exhibition/trade fair. Countries like the USA, Germany, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Mexico and Chile have confirmed their participation.

It will focus on green technology, made in India products, IT manufacturing, e-security, e-governance, healthcare, education and a round table discussion on the rural IT policy. Two unique subjects will be taken up for discussion: IT in internal security and the role of IT in sports
