bial awaits rti order
Bangalore, DHNS:

The BIAL (Bengaluru International Airport Limited) has decided to keep mum on the issue of Karnataka Information Commission (KIC) ruling on Monday, that the RTI (Right to Information) Act applies to the airport.

BIAL sources said it was yet to receive a copy of the order. “The delegation from the MoCA visited the airport and met Mr Albert Brunner. We will look into the issue after the copy is received,” they said.

A full bench of the KIC headed by State Chief Information Commissioner K K Mishra had on Monday ruled that since BIAL is a public-private-partnership project, taken in the interests of the public and is substantially financed by the government, the KIC has no hesitation in holding that the BIAL is a public authority as defined under the RTI Act.

The Bench had also directed BIAL to appoint a public information officer to provide information to citizens. BIAL earlier challenged an order of the commission that directed it to provide information on an application by a city resident, Benson Issac. The high court had asked the commission to deliver an order within two weeks.
