Bangalore: Illegal hoardings were removed from M G Road this morning.

The drive was carried out in the wake of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's announcement that illegal hoardings would be brought down.

A team of officials cleared some hoardings in the vicinity of Oriental Building.

A special team will go around and remove illegal hoardings across the city. Initially, the drive will be carried out on Brigade Road and Commercial Street.

The licence for some hoardings has expired, while others await renewal. About 3,000 hoardings will be removed over the next few weeks.

"We have formed a special team. Action will be initiated against those who erect new flexes. We have stopped renewing display licences and all illegal hoardings will be cleared in three months," said D R Jayaramraje Urs, special commissioner (Administration), BBMP.
