Bangalore: Heavy movement of vehicles on the National Highway 7, leading to the Bengaluru International Airport is causing inconvenience to residents of R.T. Nagar. For the pedestrians crossing this busy highway, speeding vehicles, mostly moving towards the airport, have emerged as a threat.

Bringing this matter to the attention of the elected representatives including three Cabinet ministers, during a felicitation ceremony on Sunday, the R.T. Nagar MLA Layout Residents’ Association urged the Government to consider sky-walk or an underpass at the junction of Bellary Road and R.T. Nagar Main Road.

A memorandum submitted to these representatives said that traffic has increased on Bellary Road after the inauguration of BIA, crossing the road has become a difficult task for the aged and children residing in the area. “Bus stands on either side of the road at the junction are also leading to confusion,” it said.

The association quoted traffic expert M.N. Srihari, who has suggested foot overbridge and underpasses for pedestrian crossings on Bellary Road, the absence of which could lead to accidents. It also asked the representatives to consider their demand for proper disposal of garbage from the area.

Among those who were felicitated include Minister for Excise, Information & BT, Science and Technology Katta Subramanya Naidu, Minister for Labour B.N. Bachhe Gowda, Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai, MLAs Dinesh Gundu Rao, T.B. Jayachandra, Roshan Baig and Qamrul Islam, who are all the residents of the area.
