Normal life disrupted as rains lash City
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Heavy rains lashed the City on Wednesday evening creating havoc at several places. The rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds, led to traffic jams at many places and affected normal life.

A big tree came crashing down on Osborne Road in front of Graseme Apartments. One car was completely crushed, while the two others were partially damaged. The intensity of tree fall was such that it also brought down four electric poles. The entire area plunged into darkness after the incident.

Another tree came crashing down on Attimabbe Road in Banashankari. The tree fall led to traffic jams for more than one hour. Drain water blocked roads and footpaths in UB City and Ejipura in Viveknagar.

According to the meteorological department the city received increased rainfall on Wednesday, compared to the previous day. While 16mm of rainfall was recorded on Wednesday, 7.2 mm was recorded on Tuesday, according to Director of the Meteorological Department, A Muthuchami.

Along with increased rainfall, the wind speed has decreased. The city will receive moderate rainfall in the next two days as well, he said.

In the next two to three days it is likely that the rainfall will decrease in the coastal areas and the Ghat region, while the interior Karnataka will receive increased rainfall. This is likely to occur as India is heading to the break monsoon condition, said Muthuchami.

Such a condition when the monsoon almost disappears, the pattern is disturbed and regions which usually receive heavy rainfall get less rainfall and the regions which receive less rainfall receive heavy rainfall is called break monsoon condition.

During this condition, the West Coast will receive decreased rainfall as will central parts of India. There will be increased rainfall over North East India and foot hills of Himalayas.

There will be increased rainfall over Southern Peninsula except West Coast and Kerala. This condition has to prevail for two days.
