The first phase of the Namma Metro project, between Byappanahalli station to Chinnaswamy cricket stadium, has been behind schedule by eight months, said Mr N. Sivasailam, BMRC managaing director on Tuesday.
Participating at an interactive session on the progress of the Metro project at the FKCCI, he assured that BMRC authorities have been working hard to make up for the delay.
Admitting that the progress of work has been at a snail’s pace at MG Road and Indiranagar he said that the work force would be increased to expedite the project.
Even a small encroachment on government or private land would actually hold the project leading to delay. Trade body’s like FKCCI should take the initiative in convincing traders.
Work on CMH road is getting delayed due to legal hurdles, he added.
Various impact assessments like geological, traffic and environment studies have been conducted by the IISc and would be implemented and updated on the website, Mr Sivasailam added. The report submitted by IISc experts said, the underground table would not affect the tunnel work.
Once the project is ready, it will provide for seamless traffic. Parking space will be available at all the major Metro stations.
The frequency of the metro trains will be at an interval of four minutes initially. This would later be changed to three minutes by 2021. The system is designed for a maximum speed of 80 km per hour and at an average speed of 33 kms per hour. The East West Corridor will be 18 km long from Byappanahalli terminal to Deepanjalinagar off Mysore Road terminal, CMH Road, Ulsoor, Trinity Circle, MG Road, cricket stadium, Vidhana Soudha, Central College, Majestic City railway Station, Magadi Road, Hosahalli and Vijayanagar.
North-South Corridor will begin at Yeshwanthpur terminal and terminate at RV Road terminal via Soap factory, Mahalakshmi Layout, Rajajinagara, Kuvempu Road, Malleswaram, Swastik, Majestic, Chikpet, City Market, KR Road, Lalbagh, Sourth End Circle and Jayanagar.
