Soon, you can SMS civic complaints

Soon, citizens living in the jurisdiction of urban local bodies including the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), will be able to register their complaints on civic problems through SMS (short messaging service).

The State government has decided to set up a system wherein residents’ complaints can be received by SMS and will be addressed within 24 hours. The city corporation of Mysore has developed this system, which will now be replicated in all urban local bodies, Minister for Municipal Administration Suresh Kumar told reporters here after a day-long meeting with the Mayors and Presidents of all urban local bodies in the State.

The system works in a simple way. There will be a centralised mobile number to which people can message their grievances. The messages will be forwarded to the ward officials concerned, who will take immediate steps to address the problem, officials explained.
