Land allotment to Baig: HC restrains BBMP
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The High Court on Monday restrained Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) from allowing any activity on 10,000 sq feet land purchased by Danish Publication Private Limited (DPPL), a company of which former minister R Roshan Baig is a director.
Hearing a petition by Abdul Huq, a social worker, challenging the sale of land by BBMP in favour of DPPL, Justice Ram Mohan Reddy said “The third respondent, a sitting MLA has secured an order from State government for conveying 10,000 feet of land in the heart of Bangalore in his favour and the BBMP has executed that sale deed.”
Huq had moved High Court after BBMP rejected his request to allot him land on Thimmaiah Road to construct an Urdu Community Hall in spite of his offer to undertake that the land so allotted would not be alienated to any private organisation. On the other hand, the BBMP sold 10,000 sq feet of the same land to private entity DPPL by passing a resolution based on government orders. Huq, in his petition said that the land was sold for a cost of Rs 1.68 crores, just one tenth of the actual market value without even a public notice.
Justice Reddy on hearing the petition observed, “it is appropriate to restrain BBMP from granting any permission of whatsoever nature under the KMC Act, 1976 in respect of the said property in favour of the third respondent (Baig).” The matter has been adjourned.
