Petition against BIAL dismissed

New Delhi: Anti-monopoly watchdog MRTPC has dismissed a petition challenging the exclusive agreement between BIAL and the Centre for not sanctioning any new airport within 150 km radius from BIA for the next 25 years.
Bangalore-based Association of Outsourcing Professionals (AOP) had alleged that by granting such “concession agreement” to BIAL, the Centre has created a monopoly in favour of the developers.
MRTPC rejected the petition on the ground that the agreement was entered into by the government, and such agreements in which the Centre is an approver do not comes under monopolistc trade laws. Justice O P Dwivedi declined to pass any order and said the MRTPC Act “clearly bars the jurisdiction of this commission.” AGENCIES
