Govt admonished on connectivity

Govt admonished on connectivity
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The Karnataka High Court on Friday admonished the Government and directed it to take long term measures to improve road connectivity to Bengaluru International airport in the Devanahalli.

Hearing a petition by Bangalore City Connect Foundation and G R Mohan on road connectivity to BIA, the division bench comprising Justice Ram Mohan Reddy and Justice Jawad Rahim sought to know the measures taken by the state government to reduce the traffic congestion.

When advocate general Uday Holla mentioned about the efforts to reduce the traffic congestion and the illumination of the path along the stretch, the Court questioned about the transport policy and the measures taken to remove the traffic signal on the stretch of Hebbal.

The court criticised the slow pace of work by the engineers and remarked, “It should have been completed in 2004. It is the lethargic attitude of the engineers, which has kept the work dragging.”

Road planning

The Court then sought to know whether there is a plan to construct underpasses for the safety of pedestrians.
The court also criticised the road planning of the engineers and the quality of roads.

The National Highway Authority of India in its submissions said that it is preparing a six-lane elevated carriage way to Bangalore International Airport, which will be completed within 30 months. The BIA has been directed to produce the airport capacity study conducted by BIAL. The matter has been adjourned to August 22.
